Griedfields

Installation

Zoi Pirini & Makis Faros
National Museum of contemporary art
Athens,2020

GRIDFIELDS alludes to the fragmented and distorted way in which historical events reach us, in a maelstrom of information noise and covert and overt mediations, where it is difficult to distinguish the real event. GRIDFIELDS is a 4.50m x 1m installation that works like a rolling (like a conveyor belt) animation. 4 frames that repeat as the surface moves downwards using well-known pre-cinematic technology (Zoetrope), create movement like GIF animation. The images that come to life in fragments are documentary images from WWII to the present day, corrupted to a degree that the viewer’s eye can retrieve them through TV noise. The sound, a noisy version of the Brothers Four’s well-known track Green Fields, in its own way declares the complacency that ultimately overrides any critical disposition towards the information we consume.
